You can use the Amount off Product coupon to offer a discount on items from a specific category in your online store. In this guide, you'll learn how to create the coupon, with a simple Christmas example to make each step easier to follow.

For example, if you're running a holiday promotion, you might want to give customers a discount on everything in your Christmas category, such as ornaments, gift boxes, holiday mugs, or festive decorations.

Start creating a new coupon

First, open your StoreLink dashboard and navigate to the Coupons section. Click on +New Coupon to get started.

Coupon Type

Choose Amount Off Product as the coupon type. This option lets you apply a discount to specific products or product categories instead of the entire order total.

Using our example, this is the right option if you want a holiday coupon that works only on Christmas items, not on every product in the store.

Coupon Code

Enter a name for the coupon and the coupon code customers will use at checkout to redeem the discount.

For example, you could name the coupon Christmas Sale and use a code like CHRISTMAS25 or HOLIDAY15, depending on the promotion you want to run.

Discount Items

Under Discount items, you can choose whether the coupon applies to a specific product or a category. In this article, we will choose Categories. This means the discount will apply to items included in a specific category instead of just one individual product.

Click on Select Categories to choose which category should be included in the promotion.

In this example, select the Christmas category so the coupon will apply to every item in that category. This is useful if you want shoppers to get a discount on all of your seasonal holiday products without selecting each item one by one. Click Add to finish.

Discount Value

Choose how the discount should be applied:

  • Percentage discount reduces the total by a percentage.

  • Flat discount subtracts a fixed amount from the total.

For example, if you want to encourage more holiday shopping, you could offer 25% off all Christmas items, or give a $15 discount on qualifying products. Pick the option that best matches your promotion.

Discount criteria

If needed, you can set order limits for the coupon. For example, you can require a minimum order amount before the coupon can be used, or set a maximum discount amount that can be applied to a single order. This helps you run more targeted promotions and avoid using the discount on orders that do not meet your requirements.

For a Christmas campaign, you might require a minimum spend so the coupon only applies when a customer buys enough holiday items, or set a maximum discount to keep the promotion within budget.

Coupon validity

Set the start date and end date to control when the coupon is active. Customers will only be able to use the coupon during this time period. You can also choose how often the coupon can be used:

  • Once Per Customer for one-time use

  • Unlimited if customers can use it multiple times

For example, you could run the coupon from the beginning of December until Christmas Day, then choose whether shoppers can use it once or on multiple holiday orders.

Save the coupon

Once everything is set up, click Create Coupon to save the coupon. It will then be available for customers to use at checkout.

Test the Discount Coupon

To make sure the coupon works as expected, go to your online store, add items to the cart, and proceed to checkout. Enter the coupon code and click Apply.

For example, add a few products from your Christmas category to the cart and apply your holiday coupon code. The discount should appear in the order total immediately.
